I took my snare drum into the wonderfully echoey parking garage of my building to record the reverb. Included are samples recorded from varying distances and positions. Also included are dry versions, recorded in a living room and a super-dry elevator. When used in a production, try mixing in the heavily reverbed snares against the dry ones to fit your taste. Also the reverb snares work well mixed under even unrelated percussions to add a neat ambiance. The same goes for my "stairwell foot stomps" sample set. Recorded 24-bit stereo with a sony pcm-d50. Acoustic snare sample ripped from the stock fruity loops loop "pendulus" mixed in with a click transient from a free goldbaby sample pack. Resampled and compressed multiple times. Tape saturated. (going like consists of setting an oscillator to sine with just a release tail and noise + a lowpass snapping up and trailing off gently + compression/distortion of some sort + high frequency shelf snapping down from high gain and then back up).

Samsara ekd was used for the kick, sent through eq and a couple of distortion plugins. Black noh snare was used for the snare, with a resonator and reverb placed on top of it, as well as eq and compression. Hcx was used for the hihats, with one eq plugin placed on it. The master channel got brickwalled (or bricked) using compressivecm vst.

I used 3 instances of the builtin synth subtractive, 1 was for the body of the snare the other 2 were the noise to try and replicate the wires of the snare, finally i used zynaddsubfx to create the transient. There was some eq applied to boost key frequencies in around 200hz and mastermix plugin to compress the audio.

Dubstep beat programmed with caustic 3 and mixed with ableton. 4 bars at 150 bpm big kick with snappy snare. Reverse snare and reverse spacey crash for extra effect. Busy hi hat pattern. Some gentle eq and mix compression and reverb and slight delay on hats and reverse effects. Ready to go.

A variation on breakbeat 1,a few more snare hits and an extra kick to shuffle it up a bit. A bit of fuzz across the whole drum mix really does make a difference!normalise for extra volume.
